How do I tell if my mac is currently printing via wifi or usb?

I have an active wifi network and a usb connection at the same time. My printer is printing, but scanner is really slow when wi-fi connected. My interest is to know which method of data transmission is being used by the printer while it has access to both wifi and usb or try to force USB with my iMac without turning off wi-fi at all hopefully :)

thanks

Because I do a lot of scanning and it’s a lot faster with usb and iMac than doing via Wi-Fi. I cannot find a way to understand everyday how printed get connected to iMac until I notice super slooow scanner, then I turn off Wi-Fi, unplug and plug usb cable and printer back to usb connection and in the same time it’s Wi-Fi connected to let print other wireless devices (iphone and laptop). After a while, don’t know why, printer skip usb cable and prefer Wi-Fi for my iMac too, ignoring usb cable connection. And nowhere I can read how it’s connected when I print, what a poor user design (max OS X!)
