The game we develop stucks on loading screen

Hello everyone,

We've been developing a mobile game for both platforms, and we've encountered a perplexing issue specific to iOS. Occasionally, the game simply halts and gets stuck on the starting loading screen. Strangely, after a period of time—usually a couple of hours or even a full day—it starts working again. This problem occurs with both the version available on the App Store and the one distributed through TestFlight. We have thoroughly examined the logs, but there doesn't seem to be any indication of what could be causing this behavior, everything there is clean.

We haven't made any recent changes to the game or the app store settings, so it appears to happen randomly. It feels as though the game stops functioning due to factors beyond our control, such as third-party libraries or even Apple itself.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue before or have any insights on how to resolve it? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Both platforms? iPhone and iPad? Or if that is a reference to an app portable across iOS and Android, that can mean a third-party framework is involved, and those can greatly increase the debugging difficulties.

Here? Instrument your earliest code until you identify the hang. Increase the compiler diagnostics settings and look for questionable or problematic code, too. maybe consider adding Crashlytics or Sentry.

Why continue isolating the bug? Providing Apple with a concise reproducer for an Apple bug is a whole lot faster to use and debug and verify than is providing a whole application, if this is an Apple bug. It’s also a whole lot faster path to finding and isolating issues in your own code, or in your dependencies, if it is your bug. Apple probably isn’t going to be all that speedy at or even prioritize debugging your entire app—and any third-party frameworks involved—for you.

You might also hire somebody that can help you debug your app, of course.

If you’re well and truly stuck, you can open a technical support request with Apple Developer support for code-level assistance. The smaller you can make this reproducer, the faster this will go. (This WWDC week would have been a good one to request a one-on-one lab with Apple for this, but AFAIK the schedule for those has closed.)

The folks that work for Apple may or may not read postings around here.

Depending on the details here…

Force-quit the game app.

If the problem persists, remove the game app, check for iOS or iPadOS updates, restart the iPhone or iPad, and re-install the app.

Failing that, contact the app developer.

If you’re the app developer for this stuck app (as was the posting that you replied to), you’re headed for some debugging with your app and its source code, and then failing that for a discussion with Apple Developer Support.
