Messages on iPhone 14 Pro Max working inconsistently with other iPhones

I discovered this issue is nothing new finding a post from April 2020 on the same subject. Messages to only some recipients are green rather than blue yet iMessage is turned on at both ends. We just received our new phones Monday and everything worked properly up until Tuesday when this began. When looking at Messages on my desktop Mac I see no text showing beyond Tuesday, again, with only certain devices whereas (e.g. my wife and sister) others came through on both my iPhone and Mac Pro! What is the problem here?

I resolved the problem so for future reference if anyone else encounters this issue. On your iPhone go to: Settings: Messages: Send & Receive and make certain your mobile number is checked. It immediately remedied it at least on my phone. My Mac asked if I wanted to use my number for Messages and FaceTime though it didn't change my messages to current status as on my phone which doesn't matter at this time. Apparently some text was trying to use iCloud or one of the other email addresses I never use rather than my the mobile number.

If you are experiencing a situation where messages are no longer being forwarded from your iPhone to your Mac after a specific period of time, it could indicate that the device (Mac) has been disabled or disconnected from your iPhone.

Typically, the Messages app on Apple devices allows you to sync your messages across multiple devices using the "Text Message Forwarding" feature. This feature enables you to receive and send SMS and MMS messages from your iPhone on other Apple devices, such as your Mac.

However, if your Mac is disabled or disconnected from your iPhone, this synchronization may be interrupted, resulting in messages no longer being forwarded to your Mac. Several factors could cause this situation:

  1. On your iPhone, go to "Settings" > "Messages" > "Text Message Forwarding" and make sure the option for forwarding messages to your Mac is enabled. If it's disabled, you won't receive messages on your Mac. Forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your ...
  2. Both your iPhone and Mac need to be connected to the internet for message forwarding to work. Check your network connection on both devices to ensure they are connected and have a stable internet connection.
    1. Connecting to Wi-Fi is the initial step, followed by establishing an internet connection. However, it's important to note that connecting to Wi-Fi does not automatically guarantee an internet connection. In the event that you are unable to connect to Wi-Fi, the issue may stem from settings on your iPhone or the router/modem.
    2. On the other hand, if you are unable to establish an internet connection despite being connected to Wi-Fi, the problem is likely related to the settings on your router/modem. In such cases, it is advisable to promptly contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance. Check your WiFi Router / Modem for --> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points ...
  3. Sometimes, signing out of your Apple ID on your Mac and then signing back in can help resolve syncing issues. On your Mac, go to "System Preferences" > "Internet Accounts" and sign out of your Apple ID. Then sign back in and check if message forwarding is working again.
    1. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.--> Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime
  4. Ensure that both your iPhone and Mac are running the latest software updates. Outdated software versions can sometimes cause compatibility issues and disrupt message forwarding.

iMessage (Blue) -

  • iPhone to iPhone: requires internet (Either over WiFi or Cellular Service) as it is sent over internet protocol. Needs Activation on your device.
  • iPhone to Android: Not available

SMS/MMS (Green) -

  • iPhone to Android: does not require any internet it is sent over cellular voice protocol. Needs to be enabled by your Carrier for the SIM used by you.
  • iPhone to iPhone: When iMessage is not activated or the device is not connected to the internet either over cellular or WiFi
  • You need to have an SMS/MMS plan enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc does not provide SMS/MMS services.

It will turn from Blue to Green if you have enabled "Send as SMS" and whenever your iPhone is not connected to the internet it is sent as SMS (green) to all iPhone users.

Thank you for your prompt assistance. As you see I narrowed down the cause of the issues. And I do not have SMS enabled so have never experienced the Green except sending to Android or other devices besides iPhone. Because we only received our new phones Monday the only communication I had while not at home was with my wife and for whatever reason she along with my sister's iPhone still sent and received as normal with Blue along with Delivered and Read with Time Stamp.

Thank you again.
