How to stop these Facebook updates appearing on iPad Home Screen?

On the Apple IPAD Home Screen you have 4 big ICONS on the first page-Clock, Calendar ,Photos & Updates. On the Updates one I occasionally get the weather but it is mostly Facebook Updates eg so & so likes your comment etc. Does anyone know how to stop these Updates appearing on the Homescreen. I have turned off Facebook Notifications but it has not made any difference.
