How do you start a MacBook when in closed display mode?

Hi Seat 7A,


To use closed display mode, you need to have a wired monitor and wired keyboard connected to your Mac, with the lid closed.


As far as I'm aware, these triggers will cause a Mac to automatically power on from a shutdown state:


  • Pressing the power button (internal Touch ID)
  • Pressing a key on the built-in keyboard
  • Pressing the built-in trackpad
  • Opening the lid
  • Connecting the Mac to power


In your case, I'd try disconnecting your Mac from its charger, and then plugging the charger back in. If successful, you should soon after hear the boot chime (unless your volume is muted or you disabled it).
