When I compose a reply in Apple Mail, my iCloud addresses disappear as sending options

This has been an odd behavior in my Apple Mail on Ventura for the last several months - when I reply to an email sent to my iCloud (mac.com) address, the reply address changes to one of of my non-iCloud addresses, and I cannot see my iCloud address when I look at the popup in the "From" field.

When I go to Settings>Accounts, the iCloud account is there, but the Email Address field is blank. Refilling that via "Edit email addresses" re-enables my iCloud address in the "from" field of my newly-composed email reply.

I have no idea what is causing this glitch. I have an iPhone and an iPad linked to my iCloud account. My Mail application seems to be working properly otherwise. Is this a known issue that may be corrected in Sonoma? I would be happy to share my system logs with developers.

Thanks,

Robert

No change since I first reported this last year. I have subsequently migrated to Sonoma and an M1 Mac Studio, and the same weird behavior happens.

There's no problem with the receipt of mail.

Most of the time, my Apple sender account info is functional. The dropout seems to frequently happen when I have a draft email from my Apple account open for an extended period. I know it has happened when I return to a composition window, and the "From:" field has changed to my Microsoft Exchange account, which is the next one on my Accounts list.

I can usually revive the sender account by re-entering it into the "Edit email addresses" popup in Accounts>Accounts, but that is never a permanent fix. The second screenshot shows when the account is functioning normally, with my contact data intact. When that "Email Address" field goes blank is when the glitch has occurred.

Likewise Robert - I have a me.com and a gmail.com account on Mail on my iMac (Sonoma) and every now and then the me.com account doesn't show when I send a new email and it then sends the email from the gmail account (I never look to check as the me.com account is the default 'send from' in Settings). Force quitting mail o or even rebooting the iMac doesn't add it back in and the only way I seem able to get it to return is to use Mail>Accounts and disable then reenable the account. All of the folders and mail show correctly in Mail, it is simply the ability to send from the me.com account which disappears. Can find no pattern as to when it happens. Did you get a resolution ?

Exactly the same for me though it doesn’t seem to be connected with having anything in draft. Bizarrely even force quitting mail or rebooting the Mac does not restore the me.com send from

i asked in my local Apple Store today but he just said to contact support.

my partner has a separate account on the same Mac and never experience la the issue so I’m wondering if (a) it’s an issue with my Apple ID or (b) some facet connected with having gmail and Apple accounts in the same mail client (partner doesn’t use gmail)
