Not Receiving Texts On LTE Apple Watch While Out Running.

I am out running and my LTE Apple Watch is silent. It goes off with notifications when I get near my home. Why is it that I have to turn off wrist detection in order to receive texts on my LTE Apple Watch when I am out running and my phone is at home?

Is your iPhone powered on, and able to access the Internet?

SMS/MMS TEXTs require the iPhone to be involved.

2. To receive SMS, MMS, or push notifications from third-party apps on your cellular Apple Watch, your paired iPhone must be powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, but it doesn't need to be nearby. You also need to be signed in to iMessage on your iPhone to use Messages on your watch.

UPDATE: Once again, Apple blames the customer instead of fixing their system. A “Senior Advisor” told me the problem is my case, and where I wear it on my wrist. It occurred with AND without a case! When I told him the issue doesn’t exist if I turn off Wrist Detection, he said, “I have given you the solutions to your issue.”

This issue goes back too many years. If I want to receive texts on my LTE Apple Watch when away from my phone, I have to sacrifice the following:

  • Your Apple Watch will no longer lock automatically when you remove it from your wrist.
  • Fall Detection on Apple Watch SE and Series 4 and later wonʼt automatically make an emergency call even after it has detected a hard impact fall.
  • Heart rate tracking and notifications will be disabled.
  • Background blood oxygen measurement will be turned off.
  • Background measurements for respiratory rate will be disabled.
  • Sleep tracking will not be available.
  • Some activity measurements will not be available.
  • Noise level measurements and alerts will be disabled.
  • When using Apple Pay on Apple Watch, you’ll be prompted to enter your passcode when you double-click the side button to authorize the payment.

This should not be an issue in 2023 with an Apple Watch - especially when these were all major “upgrades” on the Ultra. What truly bothers me is how this issue has been passed on to the consumer, and cut off without a real resolution on these Community Forums.
