Paused vs Not Playing

I've been having intermittent issues when trying to play AppleMusic on all of my HomePods at once. I cannot figure out the pattern and the only obvious difference I can find is that some HomePods show "Paused" and some show "Not Playing" in the Home app. What exactly is the difference between "Paused" and "Not Playing"? Does this somehow affect how a HomePod will respond to requests to play?

HomePod not playing certain tracks I bought my HomePod (Model MQHW2B/A - version 18.2) as a good quality external speaker for my iPhone (via WiFi). Playback not working on AirPods Pro Hi, I’ve noticed that the playback (resuming music with a single click after pausing the same way) doesn’t work on my AirPods Pro 3. I tested it with different apps, did a factory reset of the AirPods but the issue still persists. How do I fix this? I have iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 26.1.
