Assuming that the Find My option was enabled on the phone.....before it was lost......the phone can still appear in Find My......even if the phone has been powered off.

Now....if the battery has run down on the phone, or the phone cannot connect to the Internet where it is located at the time, then it cannot appear on the Find My map and it will display as "Offline".

If the phone is "Offline", all that you can do is check a few times each day to see if the status of the phone has changed.
