I can’t update my payment method and they ask me to contact Apple support?

There could be a variety of reasons for why you are unable to complete that transaction. To rule out the most common, first ensure you're using the process from If you need to change or update your Apple ID payment method when attempting to make that change.

If you're attempting to remove a payment method and have current charges or subscriptions in place, it may be necessary to add your new payment method first. See Remove a payment method from your Apple ID for details on what might cause problems in that process.

There could also be an issue on your account that can only be addressed or fixed by Apple, in which case contacting Apple Support as directed may be the only option.
