Safari not saving bookmarks

Hi all,

I hope you can help!

I recently purchased a MacBook Air and transferred everything from my MacBook Pro.

Everything is great except.....when in Safari, I try to bookmark a webpage, the bookmark tab opens and immediately I am faced with the spinning rainbow! The only way to stop this is by force quitting!

As you can imagine, this is most frustrating!

I decided to set up a user account on my MacBook Air to see if the problem persisted, the answer, no!! Everything is working perfectly, no issues, I can save as many bookmarks as I like!

I logged back into my normal login and the problem remains the same! Bookmark tab opens and faced with the spinning rainbow! Please, please help! I am sure it must be something simple!

I am fully up to date with software and updates, my Safari version is Version 16.5 (18615.2.9.11.4)

Thanks very much.

Hello Dravot,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you.

We appreciate you letting us know that you've isolated this issue to your login account. Given that, you will want to disable safari extensions. Once that's done, test to see if the issue continues. You can add the items back one at a time and test after each to help determine which one was causing the issue to occur.

Use Safari extensions on your Mac - Apple Support

Uninstall or turn off extensions

Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences), then click Extensions.

* To turn off an extension, deselect its checkbox.
* To uninstall an extension, select the extension and click the Uninstall button. If you can't determine what an extension does, or you don't expect to use it again, you should uninstall it.

Best regards.

Bump. I have the same issue. Safari lets you go through the motions as if you are creating a bookmark, but the bookmark never shows up. I tried rebooting Safari, rebooting the MacBook, and turning off all of the extensions. No change. I am able to repurpose a bookmark (edit it). So long as I have an endless number of bookmarks that I no longer need, I can just recycle them, but it would be better if I could just create one from scratch.
