I found my lost phone after I got the replacement from the apple. The old phone now says the iPhone is locked to Owner. I have contacted the apple to request them to unlock my lost phone but they said it can’t be done. Is there any way I can/will be able to get it unlocked and use it?

I did tell the Apple and they just told me that I can keep it or throw it away but no one will be able to use it. They didn’t even ask me to return or ship it back to them.
so the question if there’s any way I could be able to use it without throwing that brand new phone in the bin!!
