Outlook (for Mac) Emails, Autofill Suggestions and Contacts

For a long time I have been using the legacy version of Microsoft Outlook 2021 for my emails. A month ago, the legacy version started to go wrong, whereby emails were disappearing and reappearing. Microsoft is aware of this, saying it is a bug, then directs users to try the New Outlook, which I am doing. But there is a problem I am encountering, which is when I am writing an email and type in a letter of the recipient's email address, no drop down autofill/suggestions menu appears, meaning I have no choice but to manually type in the recipient's address. I had no such problem with the legacy version of Outlook. I imported my contacts/calendar info into the New Outlook from legacy outlook, I have gone into my Mac computer's Security/Contacts section and ticked the box to allow the sharing of my Apple Contacts with Outlook, all to no avail. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2021 twice, yet the problem I have described still exists. I have also started my Mac in safe mode, then fired up Outlook, but the app immediately quits.

If anyone reading this has encountered a similar problem with the New Outlook, and has managed to fix it, I'd be grateful if you would tell me how you did this.

Thanks for reading this.

Yours in despair,

Doug.

Have you checked the MS forums, not their Windows-centric support? Office/Outlook is not an Apple product and there are not as many Office users active here as one would think, I believe you will be better served by asking in Microsoft's Office forums. MS Office questions posted in Apple’s forums can linger here a long time in some cases.

Be sure to include "mac" in your search string to limit the search to Outlook Mac topics. Same if you post a question—include "Mac" in the title. That makes it easier for other Mac users to search for new posts.

I believe you will find the contributors there knowledgeable and very helpful, much more so than MS's Windows-centric support documents.

I haven't, but I know one person who has. Sounds similar to your problem.

We ditched Microsoft completely in 2015 when we bought our first modern Apple computers. Outlook was never anything but trouble and that includes many years of corporate use with my former employer.

I do know those who have no problems, or at least don't say they do.

We find Apple's versions of the apps you mention to be completely adequate for our retirement life and our enterprises.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

You are one of the lucky ones who does not have aproblem with legacy Outlook whereby emails

do a disappearing act, reappear, disappear again and so on. Microsoft has acknowledged this is a bug, then directs those having such problems (which includes me, unfortunately) to use the new Outlook. With that, too, misbehaving (for me), I can no longer use Outlook.

Hi Allan,

Thanks for your reply.

The problems I am encountering with Outlook has had me leaving the same query in Reddit and in the Microsoft forum you write about. I have received a response from someone at Microsoft, but it looks as if that person did not take note of my emphasis on using a Mac, even though I submitted the query to the Outlook/Mac section. Some of his advice to try out a few things to remedy the problem, is aimed at a PC user.
