I signed out of my iPad to give it to my husband and signed in with his id. I did this with messages as well but my messages are coming in on his "new" iPad. What can I do to solve this

I am giving my better iPad to my husband and I signed out of Apple ID and put his in. I changed the email etc. But messages keep coming in for me even though I see his Apple ID in "you can receive iMessages to and reply from." Not sure what I need to do for him to receive his messages and not mine
