How to add Gmail to the Apple native Mail app?

Since the new iOS came my Gmail account stopped receiving new mail. I was advised to delete the account and add it anew. When I do that I'm prompted to enable the cookies

and instructions are provided. At the displayed location, however, (Settings > Safari) I don't have a toggle to (un)block the cookies.

Because of this, I cannot add to the Mail app my Gmail account. What is the workaround to this?


Both my iPhone and iPad suffer the same issue.

You typically do not use a web browser on either an iPhone or iPad to add an email account to be used for the Mail app. See the following support article on the proper method to do so:
