I forgot my passcode for my laptop Mac air

I forgot my passcode for my laptop Mac air, my fingerprint ID works but I want to make sure I can manually login if I have to?

You need to know your existing password to change it; there is no way around that.

Proceed as described in If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support.
