Ventura 13.4 is dropping wallpaper chosen for system ones?

I've used certain wallpaper I've made for YEARS, and I change the them occasionally. I have my wallpaper under Users/name/Documents/(about 13 themed folders). They've lived happily there, no issues before. I want them separate from the Pictures folder.

I also use a lot of Desktops and 1-2 monitors, so my normal set up is:

MacBook Pro Desktop 1/wallpaper Z

MacBook Pro Desktop 2/wallpaper Y

MacBook Pro Desktop 3/wallpaper X

MacBook Pro Desktop 4/wallpaper W

Work or Home Monitor A Desktop 5/wallpaper V

Work or Home Monitor A Desktop 6/wallpaper U

Work or Home Monitor A Desktop 7/wallpaper T

Work or Home Monitor A Desktop 8/wallpaper S

Work Monitor B Desktop 9/wallpaper R

(Before you judge, I have my reasons for this and it works for me!)

Lately after the 13.4 upgrade, it's been dropping my wallpaper and replacing them with system ones. I'll reconnect them, next day it drops a different Desktop one or more. Today Desktop 1-4 is now all wallpaper Z, and Desktop 6 is system, not my chosen one.

I did submit a bug, and I'll try to delete my monitor and re-establish it but it's weird it's suddenly having an issue with wallpaper.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.


NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following; 

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts 

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files


NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
