Disappearing iPad on-screen keyboard

When composing e-mails if I need to leave the mail app to do something like look at what I am responding to, when I come back the keyboard is gone and there is no way to invoke it. There was a thread on this earlier this year that went cold, and didn’t offer a solution. My iPadOS is current (that’s the first thing they suggest) and it still keeps happening. I am not alone because there were dozens of “me toos” on the thread.

The occasional disappearance of the keyboard when using the Mail App is a bug - but there’s a simple workaround…

Simply tap within the To, cc/bcc or Subject field; the on-screen keyboard will reappear.

This occasionally happens to me with different apps I use in my classroom. There is usually a little button on the lower right sift to tap and a keyboard icon appears there. Press that and the keyboard should come back. Often it is phone size instead of full size for some strange reason. Other times we swipe the app up and quit it and go back in and the keyboard returns.
