i mean they stole my iphone xr and after filing a complaint with the police i was advised to delete my icloud account so that the thief can use it and introduce a new sim card and then my mobile operator can detect the insert phone number on the phone and send it to the police. I have already deleted my icloud account and I doubt if it will be possible or not.
By “deleted my iCloud account,” do you mean that you deleted your Apple ID? If so, then you have removed Activation Lock on the stolen iPhone and allowed the thieves to use it.
If you had left Activation Lock enabled, nobody would ever be able to use that iPhone and your data would be safe.
