How to stop syncing podcasts with family members?
My husband and I are in the same Apple family, but even when logged in under different Apple IDs, our podcasts sync with each other. How do we shut this off?

Does that mean you were signed in to the same Apple ID at some point? Apple IDs should not be shared. when s signed in to the same Apple ID, it works as a single account and will sync everything across including podcast downloads and listening progress.
If you are signed in to different Apple IDs, then syncing is not possible at all as the Apple IDs would be independent even on Family sharing. Sound like you are still sharing an Apple ID somewhere. Make sure you are each signed in to your own Apple ID for Media & Purchases as well as iCloud.
Settings ➜ Apple ID
and
Settings ➜ Apple ID ➜ Media & Purchases.

Why are you turning off sharing media and purchases?
If the apps were downloaded to his devices using your Apple ID, then they will forever require it to update, regardless of the sharing media and purchases setting. Again, when sharing an Apple ID like that you go outside Family Sharing.
Each of you has to be signed in to your own Apple ID, and then you can turn on Sharing Media and Purchases and it will share your purchases with him so he can download them.
Anything previously downloaded to his devices with your Apple ID, was done so outside of Family Sharing and will be tied to your Apple ID.
He can delete any apps download with your Apple ID, and then redownload them through Family Sharing. click here ➜ How to download apps and content that your family members purchased - Apple Support
Yes, when I dug down and checked, we were signed in with the same ID for media and purchases. Signing in separately at that level fixed the problem. Thanks.
Now I’ll have to see if my husband can still access our music and apps through family sharing with that setting turned off.

Glad it worked out.

He should, as that’s exactly how Family Sharing works. If using the same Apple ID, Family Sharing is entirely defeated and not actually involved.
Turns out when I turn off “sharing media and purchases” in family settings, that also turns off sharing apps. So I have to log him in with my ID when updating apps.
