Problem with the location service

Hello all, I noticed that I do not work the location weather app. Decided to go via safari to google maps, and got location error too, opened map app, and same thing. Went into settings - privacy - location service - everything is enabled there. I ran system diagnostics by holding down the power button and then command + D, got no error reference codes was ADP000 which means there is no error, but the location still does not work. Opened the locator from my iPhone, and see that the last time my macbook there was detected on the 15th

Hello VladimirM27,

Please ensure that the affected apps are allowed to detect the location of your Mac, so we can make sure there isn't an issue there. This link will guide you through how to check that, and may be helpful: Allow apps to detect the location of your Mac

Allow apps to detect the location of your Mac

Location Services allows apps and websites to gather and use information based on the current location of your Mac. Your approximate location is determined using information from local Wi-Fi networks, and is collected by Location Services in a manner that doesn’t personally identify you.

Turn Location Services off
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Privacy & Security  in the sidebar, then click Location Services on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Turn off Location Services.

If you turn off Location Services on your Mac, your precise location is not sent to Apple. To deliver relevant search suggestions, Apple may use the IP address of your internet connection to approximate your location by matching it to a geographic region.

Even if you turn off Location Services, third-party applications and websites may still use other ways to determine your location. For safety purposes, however, your Mac’s location information may be used for emergency calls to aid response efforts regardless of whether Location Services is turned on.

Thanks!

A lot of the basic location information is acquired by your Router, but there can be problems with that.

When we had only 'dumb' flip-phones, despite having multiple Routers in the house, they decided the current location was the location of the Verizon center in the area, about 20 miles away.

Then we had a garden party, and tech-savvy friends brought their iPhones over and stayed for a while, and now the Routers know their locations within about 20 feet, and the different routers are slightly different from each other. The additional fine grained location information provided by Multiple smart cell phone devices over a span of time allowed the router to refine its actual position based on cell tower locations as well as its fiber connection origin.

Web site location results are MUCH better now.
