Brand new MacBook Air still with SMC issues

Does anyone understand what is going on with Apple's MacBook Air? Apple removed my previous post asking for contact information, after being told my 2017 MackBook Air arrived to them with a "shattered screen" and I would be awarded $0 for trade-in...so, it's possible this post will be taken down, too. But I've had to reset the SMC for both computers (within a week of owning them). I had to do it intermittently with the last one, and was hoping that by upgrading my device this would no longer be an issue. Does anyone know what's going on with their machines or can you offer up a solution? Is this happening to you, too? If I trade this in for another new one...it's likely going to have the same glitch, right?
