Apple TV has stopped streaming in Safari on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) running 10.14.6 Mojave.

No part of my setup has changed, no updates nor added extensions, though Apple TV will no longer stream through Safari. It will play the trailers for shows, but not stream the shows.

I have tried other browsers and it will stream through Chrome & Firefox after a small delay.

Hi Lukabyo,

The most likely explanation for a behavior that you describe is that something has changed if the service previously worked but no longer does. Identifying what component changed is the next step.

To rule out a number of possible causes at once, start your Mac into safe mode following the guidance at How to use safe mode on your Mac. Test in your standard user account to see if the content will play, and use the results to determine which set of subsequent directions from the article to follow:

"If the issue continues in safe mode

If the issue continues while in safe mode, or your Mac restarts several times and then shuts down while starting up in safe mode, you should reinstall macOS and make sure that your Apple software and third-party apps are up to date.

If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode

If the issue doesn't continue while in safe mode, leave safe mode by restarting your Mac normally. Then test for the issue again. The issue might be resolved.

If the issue returns after leaving safe mode, startup items are probably at fault. Apps can install such items in numerous places, and they aren't always easy to find or recognize. For that reason, you should first make sure that you've installed any available updates for your Apple software and third-party apps.

If updating your software doesn't help, try any of these solutions:

  • Test your login items.
  • To learn whether software in your user account is causing the issue, set up a new user account, then log in to it and try to reproduce the issue in that account.
  • Unplug all accessories from your Mac, including printers, drives, USB hubs, and other nonessential devices. You could have an issue with one or more of those devices or their cables.
  • Reinstall macOS.

If you still need help, please contact Apple Support."

Regards.

My Safari browser still streams all other services without issue, it just won't stream Apple TV.

I can get Apple TV to stream in another browser but prefer to use Safari, where all my other links are.

On your advice, I have restarted in safe mode a couple of times, emptied caches, removed all login items, reset PRAM and everything I can think of and still nothing.

You say set up a new account, how do I set up a new Apple TV account without paying more money?

When going to tv.apple.com in Safari I am present with this brand identifier:

https://tv.apple.com/au?ctx_brand=tvs.sbd.4000&l=en

Just to note, it was streaming one night. I dozed off mid episode. When I went to rewatch the movie the next day it wouldn't stream, just shows the "Play" triangle and sits.
