No one at Apple thought the oddball colors that Dark Sky used were deviant from normal Doppler and NEXRAD radar images used by the U.S. National Weather Service. Probably like a tooth extraction to convince them to adapt the normal radar coloration.
There are countless other weather applications available for iOS/iPadOS/macOS/tvOS that do adhere to the visual norm.
