Caller ID mislabeled location as China mainland

I recently received a phone call from a number that initially didn't look familiar. The number showed up in the format of a Chinese phone number and the caller ID showed it as being from China mainland.

After receiving a voicemail from this caller I recognized the number and realized it was from a local business.

My question is why the caller id would have randomly flagged this number as being from China mainland?

I had made and received calls from this number in the past and this had never been the case. I've also received those calls from the same network connection (home wifi) without this happening as well.
