Mac mini and display resolution

Ok, I recently ordered a used 2020 M1 Mac mini and while I don't have it yet, I am currently using Windows and have never really used macOS before, and I am used to using a 1080p TV of approximately 32". I have come across some posts saying stuff about fonts being blurry on "lower resolution displays" and how it is quite important to have a 4k monitor. I am NOT in the budget for getting a high resolution display. Is the display quality ACTUALLY that bad?

You don't need a high res. display to use with the Mac mini.

Plus you should be able to adjust the Over/Under-scan to make things better.

By design computer Displays are made for detailed desktop work and TV's are made more for active motion. If you find yourself having trouble with close up work on the TV, then save up a couple hundred dollars and look into buying a better display.

You are welcome.

Yes. A display of 1080p will work just fine. The Mac will chose what resolution is best for itself.

  1. Go Here: Change your Mac Display’s Resolution - Apple Support
  2. As the site reads: "By default, your Mac automatically uses the best resolution for the display."

About Using 4K:

If you have a 4K TV, then you need to connect it via a 4K HDMI cable. If it is not a 4K monitor, then just use a standard HDMI cable. If there is not HDMI port, then you'd need an adapter. I recommend this adapter, because it had a female USB-C post, thus you will not lose the port for plugging things in: USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple
