MBP Battery status and Fan

Hi all, My MBP (late 2020, M1) was purchased a year ago, and batter cycle is at 100 cycles. Just recently my fans on the right side of my laptop has started going crazy, making loud noises, and battery status has a X even though I know it was fully charged a minute ago. Tried shutting down, close the lid and restart but problem won't solve, and sometimes when shut down or restarted it won't turn back on. The message on battery says battery service recommended but the batter health is still at 90%. Can anyone help or give possible solutions? Or else I'll really have to visit an Apple store or Mac Doctor.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.4

You have some sort of hardware issue with the laptop. The battery disappeared for a while which is why it showed an "X" on the battery icon and the fan ran at high speed since the battery temperature sensor was no longer accessible. "Service Recommended" is telling you macOS has detected a hardware issue with this battery (or possibly the Logic Board....most likely a bad battery).

The 90% "health" is just indicating the Battery's Full Charge Capacity (FCC) is at 90% of its original Design Capacity and doesn't actually indicate the battery's health, only its FCC. The cycle count is also irrelevant for determining battery condition or health with these exceptions:

  • If the Cycle Count is nearing or beyond 1,000 cycles, then the battery is well used and likely will need to be replaced
  • If the laptop is still covered by the Apple Warranty and the Cycle Count is under 1,000 cycles, then Apple will replace the battery for free if there is a battery problem.

Most likely the Battery in this laptop has failed. No matter what you will need to have the laptop repaired since this is a hardware issue of some sort.

I have the same issue. Just had the laptop in repair and it cam back with a new battery, however the issue still persists. MAkes me think that this might not actually be a hardware problem. Only remedy is to completely drain the battery, seems the recalibration works ... at least for a while, problem can occur again after any amount of time.
