iPad homepage screen icons

I have a brand new iPad. When I turn off the iPad my icons rearrange themselves and widgets I have removed reappear. I have never had this problem previously and this is my third iPad. Any suggestions?

Hi Granddragon,

We'd like to help you find the best solution path for your icons and widgets rearranging after a restart. We would recommend starting with making sure the iPad is on the latest iPadOS version by following the steps in Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support. Often updates can help provide solutions with unexpected behaviors like this that you are experiencing.

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

If this is updated or remains after updating, we would recommend seeing if moving a Widget to another page, restarting and putting it back where you choose to see if this continues this behavior after. If you are still not met with a solution after these suggestions, we recommend contacting Apple Support to further help with this unexpected behavior.

I followed your advice although my ipad was up to date with all updates. I doubled checked that I was up to date. It made no difference. In the end I spent over an hour on the Apple chat line trying to fix it. The solution was to delete all my apps and reapply them. It took me an hour or so. I have not been game to turn my ipad off and reboot it to see it it worked. I don't have time to spend hours fixing my apps. It was made difficult by Apple's silly filing system and naming of folders which were overlaid on each other in the App Library. Apple's folder filing etc are nothing like a normal filing system and does my head in. Because I rename folders etc to make sense this complicated the issue or reapplying the apps after deleting them.
