filtering items in a preadsheet based on the day of the week

I have a spreadsheet with dates in one column and data for that day in the next column. I would like to have a new table with only dates and data that occurred on a specific day of the week, i.e. Monday.

Hi feaco,

Numbers 13.0 under macOS Ventura 13.3.1

Add another column (column B in this example) to display the day of the week.

Formula in B2 (and fill down): DAYNAME(WEEKDAY(A2,1))

Now filter Table 1

Please call back with questions.

Regards,

Ian.

Hi again feaco,

A reply from Barry in this thread Filter a table in Numbers 13.0 - Apple Community put me on to another approach.

We can insert another table to determine the filter rule.

The new table Choose a Day is a single cell Pop-Up Menu.

Add another column (Show?) to your data table.

Formula in D2 (and fill down): IF(Choose a day::A$1="Show all Days","Show",IF(B2=Choose a day::A$1,"Show",""))

Here is the filter showing all rows.

Now choose a day of the week

You can hide column D of Table 1 when all is working well.

Regards,

Ian.

I tried your first answer and it gave me what I wanted. Thank you for your comeback (both times). I know that numbers and excel are both much more powerful than Lotus was, but there are certain lotus features that I sorely miss. Actually I used Quattro by Borland more than Lotus because it was more powerful. It had a feature that allowed you to name cell ranges. The other thing I miss is scripts which were quite handy.

However, this is giving me great help. Thank you.
