The opposite should happen.


When the Apple Watch is within Bluetooth range of the iPhone, the Apple Watch will use the iPhone’s radios over the low energy Bluetooth connection, and conservative its own battery.


So the Apple Watch will turn off it cellular radio, its WiFi radio, its GPS receiver, and depend on the iPhone’s set of radios, and indirectly, the iPhone’s larger battery.
