Passcode not working after 16.5.1 iOS update

Woke up this morning to find both faceid and passcode are not being recognized. Tried using my watch to unlock, tried several times with faceid and the CORRECT passcode (which didn't change overnight!)....and now faced with the 1-hour lock screen. I know the 16.5.1 update was pushed out last night and automatically updated....and can only think this is what caused it.

Anyone facing similar issues? How do I get into my phone?!?!

My apologies! You're right. You'll have to put your iPhone into recovery mode and restore it that way by following these steps: If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support.

Hello! If your passcode isn't working, you'll have to restore your iPhone. Start by performing a factory reset:

  1. Back up your iPhone: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
  2. Open Settings
  3. Tap General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings

Then, you can restore from the backup you created earlier: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support.

Take care!

I never post, but I also had the same exact problem.

Totally ridiculous. Unfortunately, I didn't backup my phone and had to restore it and lost EVERYTHING in the process besides Contacts and some old photos. Incredibly ******. This is an insane bug that costed me hours of my time

I recommend putting your iphone in recovery mode, and restoring from itunes. If you backup your iphone regularly, this shouldn't be a big deal. If you don't, get ready to redownload and relogin to all your apps.

Wow, what an incredibly poor flaw update Apple 🍎sauce. My own passcode will not unlock my completely otherwise fine iPad-mini (5th gen) tablet. It also does not allow the optional fingerprint id which I use for quicker access always. So you tell me own only option is to do a complete system erase. This is going to cost me quite a bearing of time to replace some of my tablets contents.

Yes, I understand the ideal that if your digital information is that important then you should take precautions. In fact I have a very pricey iCloud storage volume of 4 TB to do so. But there are certain apps I use where it’s not easy to place it within the Cloud regueruly

I just want to mention for other ipad folks here seeking an “alternate fix” to avoid a complete & devastating erase of non-cloud data..do this: Let your tablet unit simply run its battery down to dead discharge zero (no-no charging anymore). After that and it’s dead to any power-on attempt, plug it in with your best charging unit and cord..but only put in a about 5% to 6% power battery percent range. When it’s up to no less then 6% of your battery levels, then try to enter your same correct code of course..if it unlocks now, then your good to Go:remember right after getting secure entry that you charge back up to 💯 100 percent ASAP or at least enough for it to not die again before a power reset…So if that works then once again Remember to do soon afterwards a routine power-reset before using too much!!
