How do I type Bullets in a document?

In Text, when writing picture captions for a publication I often need 'bullets', or 'blobs' - solid circular black dots of all point-sizes. Where do I find them, please?

imac OS10.2.10, Mac OS X (10.5.5), intel

Type 8 while holding down the option (alt) key and a bullet point will be entered.

Yes it was.

There's another bullet-like character (·) at shift-option-9. Pretty small calibre, though.

Use Keyboard Viewer to find what other characters are available from the keyboard using one or more of the modifier keys (shift, option, control).
