You can also store critical health information that emergency personnel can access, such as drugs you use, medical conditions they should be aware of, etc... Totally optional, but think of it as a medical bracelet that some people wear because it is important for emergency personnel to be aware of if you are unconscious.

And all the non-health features are great.

  • tells time
  • tells the date, day of week
  • All your iPhone alarms and notices can appear on your wrist, even if your iPhone is in another room.
  • You can answer iPhone phone calls on your wrist, even if the iPhone is in another room.
  • If you message with friends and family, the messages show up on your wrist.
  • You can see the weather on your wrist, so you know what to wear before going outside, or deciding when it would be best to go for a walk.
  • You can say "Hey Siri, give me a 3 minute timer" for anything, such as soft boiling an egg.
  • The iPhone can have medication reminders that will then show up on your Apple Watch when it is time to take your meds.

There are lots of other features available on the Apple Watch, but those are just a few that may be useful to senior citizen (PS. I'm past retirement age, so I'm speaking from experience).
