No bootcamp control panel in XP. Can't adjust brightness. Help

Says that you inserted the OS X DVD while in XP and ran SETUP to load the Apple motherboard chipset drivers.

No need to bother with OS X itself and redo everything.

Your Mac is new then it came with the 10.6.4 OEM DVD with Boot Camp 3.0.x (newest set).

So no idea why but... when you look at startup items and services, there should be all the Apple ones for Apple OS Switcher, Boot Camp, Apple Time Services, and others perhaps (MobileMe, Bonjour which can be uninstalled if desired).

Also in Programs can you uninstall or does Boot Camp show there?

As for Task Bar, I never use it, I go to Control Panel (have never used XP, only Vista/7). XP is SP2 or above (SP2 no longer is eligible for updates from Microsoft).

I seem to be having the same problem. After installing XP I inserted the OSX disc and successfully installed the drivers but it seems bootcamp control panel and system tray icon do not install.

I tried the bootcamp 3.1 update (380Mb) but that does not install without a version of bootcamp pre installed. When I look at the OSX disc I can see the driver files but I also cannot find any bootcamp related installer files.

I never did find out how to get the boot camp control panel.

I need to use this computer for a database server at work so at this point I don't care.

+With out+ the control panel I can adjust volume, brightness, or eject a cd via the keyboard.

All my iMacs, mac mini's, and 15" MBP work just fine.
With those machines I installed XP and loaded the drivers from a Snow leopard install DVD not the included install dvd.

I did not try this with the new 13"MBP.

It really isn't clear to me if you have Boot Camp 3.0 and updated to 3.1, or none of the Apple drivers.

Snow Leopard $29 came out a year ago. Newer models have newer BC 3.x set of drivers. With XP it shouldn't matter whether from 10.6 OEM DVD or retail DVD.

What would and could of course work and solve most all of this -- just post a set for motherboard in question, same as any PC has.

I'd have to look above to see what you said about Windows Startup Disk control panel (Boot Camp).

Apple using "boot camp" for too many things, too confusing, and quality of the drivers fall short.

Keyboard shortcuts from OS X aren't going to exist under Windows, and it seems like with Safari and "common support" files and folders, they'd have to be doing more... driver software and work on Windows.

Hi any luck on what the answer to getting the Bootcamp Control Panel installed correctly. I a using XP pro SP2 and all the drivers work, but just no Bootcamp Control panel showing in tray or control panel (in windows)...When trying to reinstall it gives no options for repair just goes through the same steps. as if it was never installed. right when it gets to the end of install the computer restarts without notification and then nothing changes or gets added, besides for the drivers. Also in remove programs there is nothing listed like bootcamp services..only the apple drivers show...

Anybody know what to do in this case. The imac was just bought in mid 2010.

I had the same problems as the OP and "macpro 13".

I tried 2 full installs of XP pro sp2 on my 13" MBP 2010 model. My original apple osx disk was 10.6.3 and I updated it to 10.6.4 online. I even read the bootcamp install instructions. I tried updating to XP SP3 but I still had the problem.

Here's what I did:

-boot into XP
-insert apple 10.6.3 disk

-right click on the cd icon marked Boot Camp
-explore
-open the folder marked "Boot Camp"
-right clicked on the "setup.exe" box icon
-run as current user but deselect the tick box "Protect my precious computer blah blah"

Now I have a control panel called Boot Camp, a little taskbar bootcamp icon and the function keys change the screen and keyboard brightness.

I also had the same problem that after installing Bootcamp from the OSX CD the drivers installed but the Bootcamp control panel icon was not shown on my computer. I managed to solve it using these steps:

I used Boot Camp Assistant 3.1 to install a clean Windows XP SP2 on my MacBook 13" mid-2010 model laptop.

Then I tried the Boot Camp 3.1 setup that automatically runs in Windows when you put the OSX CD in, but after a few minutes of installing most of my drivers such as NVidia video drivers & sound card & network & wWifi, when it gets to the Bluetooth and Audio devices, it suddenly gives a blank screen with some error msg for a fraction of a second before rebooting! Then all the drivers will seem installed, but the Boot Camp service won't be running. ie: there is no Boot Camp icon in the bottom-right, and therefore the laptop's trackpad doesn't allow multi-touch or even right-clicking, and none of the special function keys do anything.

This has happened to numerous people on the Apple support forums with MacBook or MacBook Pro 2010 models, when trying to use Boot Camp 3.1 with WinXP or even Win7.

After many reinstalls & reformattings of Boot Camp & WinXP, I eventually found a solution that worked for me! Basically I think one of the Audio or Bluetooth drivers that is automatically installed by Boot Camp causes Windows to crash/reboot and therefore never finish installing the Boot Camp service. So if you install each device separately and don't install the bad driver (or in the wrong order), then it can all work in the end:

_I followed this sequence:_

- Boot into a clean Windows XP system and put the OSX Install CD in.

- Open "My Computer" (click on the Start menu and then you'll see it).

- Left-click once on the CD drive "Boot Camp (D:)". Then you need to right-click it, but if your trackpad doesn't let you right-click, you can hit Shift + F10 (you might have to hold down the Fn key to use F10, ie: Shift + Fn + F10 at the same time).

- When you right-click on the CD drive, click on "Open" instead of "AutoPlay".

- Double-click on "Boot Camp" and then "Drivers".

- This is where all your Windows Boot Camp device drivers are (for XP 32bit, Vista/Win7 32bit and Vista/Win7 64bit). I assume you just want the XP 32bit drivers.

- Install the devices you have such as NVidia devices and not ones you don't have such as Intel or Sigmatel devices, but in opposite alphabetical order, so that RealTek & MotorolaSetup are installed first, and Apple is installed last. I did this order for my MacBook 13" mid-2010 model:

- MotorolaSetup.exe
- RealTek\RealtekSetupXP.exe (may not be needed)
- NVidia\NVidiaChipsetXP\setup.exe
- NVidia\XP\setup.exe

If you are lucky, it will all work! If this last one "BootCamp.exe" suddenly reboots your computer before saying that it has completed installing, then try running it a few more times in the hope that it will start working. Then you can upgrade to the latest Boot Camp version if you want, or update to XP SP3, or just use what you have and install all your software! (I recommend getting hold of the "LastXP" DVD full of useful tools).

I bought a new iMac the other day and now I've the exact sampe problem. 😟

I tried the "Run As..." trick mentioned above and it got me past the SigmaTel Audio crash!
Side effect is that you must move the main window so you can see hidden windows behind that need to be told \[*Continue Anyway*\]
(The Intel Chipset install is the worst for this.)

At the end it Blue Screened (Crashed BSOD) and rebooted. On reboot it continued installing Bluetooth drivers (several) and Mouse n Keyboard...
Many \[Continue Anyway\] and \[Next\],\[Finish\] buttons later... fini ! =D

(Note: I also installed the WindowsXP-KB921411-x86-ENU.exe bug patch before installing Drivers from Boot Camp. I don't know if that helped any; I had crashed at Intel Chipset once before and thought it would help there.)

NOTE! I had to open the Device Manager and \[+\]System devices to find a PCI Device (or 2) with a ( !)...
Right Click and "Update Driver" (Boot Camp disk is still in drive).
Now do the Next, Finish, Continue Anyway thing and you will be rewarded with the UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio, and several more! 🙂

(Reopen the Device Manager and Update the second PCI Device if needed.)

(to get Device Driver: Right click MyComputer->Properties to get to System Properties. Click Hardware tab, then Device Manager button)

After all that, the BootCamp control was not installed because of that BSOD at the end...so...I used Shervin Emami's last clue:

which seems to run the whole install all over again...But it Worked!
This time it made it all the way through!

Finally the Install is complete!
