iMovie 10.3.6 on M2 Mac Mini Missing Plug-in

I opened up a movie I created last July under Catalina and now I'm getting missing plug-in boxes on most of the media. I have alreay reset the preferences, re-installed iMovie, verified imovie has full disk access, and even opened up the package and verified the media are there. They are primarily cropped jpg files but some are video clips I created using my iPhone 13 last year.

How can I get them to show up in iMovie so Ic an edit the video?

Hi, OogieM,

What might be happening is that the files are stored in the cloud and iMovie is referring to alias files, hence the missing plugin error. I think the solution would be to download the files and then restart iMovie.

I think, then, that you might consider contacting Apple support and talking to the techs there. They have the capability of remotely accessing your computer that we cannot do here. If you go that route, would you post back with what the techs advised? It might help others with the same issue.

In the meantime, you might try creating a new library (open iMovie while holding down the option key, and select to create a new library in the box that appears). Create a project there and import some of the clips that are getting missing plug-in notifications in the other library. See if the issue replicates in the new library.

Contacted Apple tech support.

We did the create a new library and import. Same problem.

The only solution was to go back to my old iMac computer running Catalina that I had not yet decomissioned, copy the iMovie library from it to my MacMini via our NAS server as the file was huge, open up the library I was using on my MacMini and copy the project I started working on into the old iMac library and then continue.

Basically there was no solution other than a good complete backup from before the conversion to Ventura.

This is one reason I keep backups from my systems for years. You never know when you will need to go back and recover something that you only reference occasionally but gets screwed up during an upgrade or conversion.
