Problems with Message app freezing on iPhone 14 Pro Max

I have a iPhone 14 Pro Max. Within the past 2 weeks, the Messages app has been periodically freezing on either a white screen, black screen or it displays the messages, but it's frozen. I've reset my phone but doesn't seem to have helped. Lately, I'm having similar problems on a iPad Gen 4. Have reset both, but it's not helped. Am now running IOS 16.5.1 as of yesterday, but the problem still exists. Anyone have any suggestions?

iPhone Messages App is freezing while typing a message It is a time lag as the text shows up a few seconds (or many more) later. Similarly, if I delete text, the text gets deleted after a time lag. If I keep pressing keys out of frustration, it takes longer as now the poor app has more processing to do. Rebooting my iPhone sometimes helps temporarily. A lack of storage is not causing the problem; I have over 50 GB available in iCloud storage and over 150 GB available on my iPhone.
