Apple ID code

I’ve just received the following text:

Your AppleID code is 388573. Do not share it with anyone. If this was not requested by you, please visit: apple-wallet-pay.com

It was sent to me at 02.12 I was asleep so I didn’t request a code. Is the link real? I’ve not had this message before unless I needed a code. I can’t remember if the link was on the message that I know was real. I hope someone is not trying to use my apple ID to access my Apple Pay wallet.

iPhone 14, iOS 16

I didn’t click on the link in case it was fake.

apple-wallet-pay.com does not exist, looks like a scam / phishing.

Delete the message.

I already have Two-Factor Authentication.

👍

Since you've enabled Two-Factor Authentication, and they don't have access to your trusted devices, It should be OK.

An iPhone cannot request a code without human intervention.

This means that either someone had physical access to your iPhone.

If other people have access to your iPhone or other Apple device, change the device passcode and never share it with others.

Change your Passcode -> Use a passcode with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Change your Apple ID password -> Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support

  • Create a strong password for your Apple ID, It is best if your password consists of eight or more characters and include upper and lowercase letters, and at least one number. You can also add extra characters and punctuation marks to make your password even stronger.
  • Never provide your password, passcode, security questions, verification codes, recovery key or any other account security details to anyone else. Apple will never ask you for this information.

Thank you so much.

I am very careful with my security and although I’ve had iPhones for years I had not used Applepay until this iPhone 14.

I never click on links in messages until I’ve googled it first just to make sure it’s real, unless I’m expecting it. This one raised my suspicions as I was actually in bed asleep when it came through.

Thanks again for putting my mind at rest.
