Having to Re-Trust Windows Laptop After Any iTunes or Apple OS Updates

Having to plug the USB cable between ipad pro 12th generation and Windows laptop every time either iTunes is updated on Windows 11 laptop or Apple OS is updated on iPad, so the iPad trusts the laptop (in order for me to sync over wi-fi in iTunes).

Rang support about a month ago and they suggested waiting for a new upgrade to be released to see if the problem returns, after resetting a setting about trusted computers on iPad. However, just upgraded to the latest Apple OS on iPad and I've had to re-trust the laptop - again by establishing a connection between the laptop and iPad with a USB cable.

When will this issue be rectified?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 16

If correctly understood, you are seeing the “trust this computer” prompt on your iPad screen each time that you connect your iPad to your Windows PC? If so, this is understood to be normal/expected behaviour - intended to ensure that you consciously grant permission for a connected device, or computer, to access the iPad’s file system.

The change from a one-time granting of “trust” for a specific computer, to requiring specific consent each time a fresh connection is made, is understood to be a deliberate change to iOS/iPadOS security.

Support have indicated to me this is not to be expected. Once trusted it should remain trusted. Once trusted and before an update, establishing a connection via USB cable does not result in the pop up re-appearing. It will only do so after an iTunes or iPad OS update.

Unless of course I've been provided with wrong information by the person I spoke to over the phone about a month ago, which is another story and issue. I expect competent support.

I don't do Windows, but even on Mac OS, every time there is an update - and my browser (Firefox) has many - I get the dialog and have to enter the code. Seems silly - same browser for 10+ years, just some minor update. It is annoying, but that is what Apple has decided is necessary for your safety, so there is not much one can do.

According to support.Apple.com my iPad should remember what computers it’s trusted. That’s what the support agent said to me when I was on the phone. Either the support article hasn’t been updated (which is just plain uselessness) or I received bad support when I raised this with phone support last month.
