iPad Air 2 alternatives to Universal Control from Mac?

I tried to setup Universal Control from my Monterey MacBook Pro 2015 13" so it would control my iPad Air.

Unfortunately the Universal Control on my iPad went out of control, and the black squares around the individual selectable items showed up on my iPad and it was not intuitive how to shut it off. Then it would occasionally turn itself on a few times until reloaded the iOS from scratch. Never again will I try that method to control my iPad. I just want to be able to manage my iPad using the trackpad of the MacBook and bigger screen of my MacBook. Is there anything that works easier than Universal Control?
