Merge Photo Libraries

Hey all!

Anyone know the best way to merge Photo Libraries? I have one older large (45Gb) library on an external hard drive (Mac OS Journaled Extended format) and one much smaller (about 9Gb) on my new Mac mini M2 running Ventura. I want to be able to merge libraries and not lose anything, and later on be able to delete duplicates, etc. Ideally I'd like to copy it again back to an external drive and run it from there.

Thanks!

Jon

Hello jonrlind,

If you can get these photos into the Photos app, there is a merge option. To my knowledge, there is no feature on macOS to just open an external hard drive with photos and merge them. This is only a capability of photos within the Photos app.
