Hello mhorton12,

Fall Detection works by detecting a hard fall. Even if you're in a wheelchair, or sitting down elsewhere, if your Apple Watch detects you falling out of said chair, it will generate a Fall Detection alert. This will alert your Apple Watch and your Emergency Contacts - Use Emergency SOS on your iPhone - Apple Support.

Add emergency contacts

  1. Open the Health app and tap your profile picture .
  2. Tap Medical ID.
  3. Tap Edit, then scroll to Emergency Contacts.
  4. Tap the Add button  to add an emergency contact.
  5. Tap a contact, then add their relationship.
  6. Tap Done to save your changes.

I hope this helps!
