Shared my location with one person , but it’s not showing my phone, showing someone else

I recently got a new iPhone 14, and needed to get off my family’s Apple account, and made my own. When my data was transferred to the new phone it was automatically logged into my parents account, and I thought I’ve logged off of their account in its entirety. Now I’m trying to share my location with my boyfriend, but it’s showing my moms location, not mine. I’m not sure how to fix this other than log out of my apple account, but I’m not sure what’s causing this. I don’t know where in my phone I’m logged into my parents account because I’ll occasionally get a pop up saying to log into their account, but it doesn’t tell me where or what it’s to log into. It only says to log into their account. Any idea how to fix this, or will I need to go into a store to get help ? Thanks in advance.

edit: whenever I go to the Find My app, I click to share my location with him, but it immediately boots him off and have to restart again to add him. Still don’t know what’s going on

Hello earl_22,

We would like to see how we can help you with your Apple ID and Find My. Did you create an entirely new Apple ID, or remove yourself from Family Sharing? If you signed in with a different Apple ID, did you follow the steps in this link: Sign in with your Apple ID - Apple Support

"Sign in on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Sign in to your [device].

On iPhone, sign in to your Apple ID in the Settings app

3.Enter your Apple ID and password.

4.If prompted, enter the six-digit verification code sent to your trusted device or phone number and complete sign in.

If you're already signed in to iCloud on the iPhone paired with your Apple Watch, you will automatically be signed in to that Apple ID. Learn more about how to set up and sign in to your Apple Watch. "

Cheers!

Thanks for the response. My family never did the “Family Sharing,” we were all just signed in on the same account in every phone, and it did have its complications. I had made my own Apple account at some point before getting my new iPhone, and once I got it, I signed out of my family’s account and signed into mine, as per the instructions you had provided. I honestly think the problem is that I’m still signed in on my family’s account, as I’ll get a pop up telling me to sign into that account, but it won’t tell me for what. I think this is what’s causing the problem, but I don’t know where to go to fix it

Hi earl_22,

It is strongly recommended that every individual has their own unique Apple ID, and that Family Sharing be used to share purchases or subscriptions when appropriate. More details can be found at Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID.

Regarding your location sharing, visit Find people and share your location with Find My and try the steps to change your sharing device:

"Change your sharing device

To change the device that you're sharing your location from, open Find My on the device from which you want to share. Select the Me tab, then choose Use this [device] as My Location."

As you changed Apple ID accounts you'll want to verify that your Messages, FaceTime, App Store, iTunes Store and other services are signed in or registered to your Apple ID and phone number, and not other family member devices or numbers. If any apps on your iPhone were installed using the previously shared account, you will not be able to update those without the password for that ID. Removing and reinstalling using your own account will resolve those pop-ups.

Regards.
