Why won’t my capital one credit card add to Apple Pay

I have just checked with Capital One.As things stand (19-9-23) Capital One UK cards “are not compatible” (whatever that means) with Apple Pay.

That is a question for Capital One. When you add a card Apple asks for authorization from the card issuer, and if they don’t provide authorization you can’t add the card.

Only Capital One can answer Why they aren’t allowing you to add their card. But here are some possibilities: A “card declined" message means that the issuer of the credit or debit card you have on file in your iTunes account rejected account confirmation. It is not an Apple problem; Apple is just passing through the message from your issuer. There are a number of reasons the charge or verification might be declined:

• Apple is not allowed to accept credit or debit cards in your country
• The card is not recognized in your country
• Insufficient balance or account in arrears
• Account suspended for suspected fraud (not necessarily by you)
• Error in card number
• Wrong expiration date
• Wrong security (CVV) code
• Address in your iTunes account does not match exactly the billing address for the card
• The card was not issued in the country of the iTunes store
• You are connected through a VPN provider

different card companies have different policies and procedures. Capital one may not be adding your card for many reasons, maybe they flag it as suspicious activity or they don’t support Apple Pay. Contact their support.

Capital One offers virtual credit cards of their own and seems to be more closely aligned with Google Pay and other digital wallets besides Apple Pay.
