iPhone 14 Pro Max camera audio not stereo

I recently upgraded to the 14 Pro Max, but I can't get the camera to record in stereo. When importing video files to Premiere Pro they're all in mono. The 'record stereo' toggle is on within camera settings and the 'mono audio' in accessibility settings is toggled off. I've also tried both export methods from Photos. Is there anything else I can check, or do I have a dud? Experiencing the same issue in all camera modes (cinematic, action, regular video etc) and I've never had this problem with any of the previous iPhones.

Any advice?

Enabling the "Record Stereo Sound" option allows the iPhone to capture audio using multiple microphones for a stereo effect. However, it's important to note that the stereo effect may not be noticeable in all recording situations, especially in environments with minimal sound separation.

Ensure that you are recording in an environment with sufficient sound sources or stereo separation. Stereo audio will be more noticeable when there are distinct left and right audio sources.

Additionally, the stereo audio quality can vary depending on the distance, direction, and intensity of the sound sources.

Here are some things to keep in mind about stereo recording on the iPhone 14 Pro Max:

  • Stereo recording is only available when you are using the rear cameras.
  • Stereo recording is not available when you are using the front camera.
  • Stereo recording is not available when you are using the Slo-Mo or Time-lapse modes.
