GarageBand was running perfectly until I installed another Mp3-editor/recording program that came free with a recording device I got. The software is called Audacity; it *****. Anyway, GarageBand wasn't booting up for a while and I got it to start working again. Now, whenever I try to switch the audio output from either built-in audio or the firewire audio interface to the soundsticks, it'll quit. This is a bummer because that's my keyboard setup. I need it to work. All of the sudden it's acting like a PC program.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I deleted and reinstalled GarageBand (and updated to 2.0.2), and deleted the program the I suspected had caused the problems, defragged my hard drive. Of course I've restarted it many times throughout the course of those processes, and the program will still crash when I attempt changing the driver to Soundsticks.

Audacity has the capability to record in 24 bit. Garageband does not. Make sure in the Audio/Midi setup utility that the 16bit sound is selected.

You could also delete the AudioMIdi prefs to set the system back to its default values.

I did not have good luck with Audacity either. It suddenly quit often, leaving me stranded in mid-session.
