IPOD Classic 120GB - what generation is it please

Hi there, I have a new IPOD Classic 120gb SN 8p8384jm2c7 Model A1238 part No: MB565zp version 2.0PC. I am wanting to know which generation it is? Very confused! Purchased in Dec 2008. Thank you!

Welcome!

The MacTracker database (free In the Mac App Store) shows three models sharing the A1238 designator, but only one with a 120GB drive and a partially matching order number:

The name at the top is always the official Apple name, so yours is simply "iPod Classic (120GB)." Another lookup service adds "7th Generation" and "Late 2008" but those are not in the official name. However, they may be handy if you are trying to order parts.

The trailing characters in order numbers—in your case the "ZP" trailing "MB565"—often represent a localized language version or other non-US configuration. I do not have any resources that translate the "ZP" part of your order number.
