Double tap links

Why do I have to double tap links all of a sudden? Here’s a screenshot that shows what happens when I tap once. A bubble pops up with the share & bookmark icons. Then I have to tap again to open the link. How do I turn this off??? I’ve checked all of these, and they’re turned off—hover, voiceover, voice control. I have a pro 4th gen.

Hello stonelle,

Are you using an external keyboard or mouse with the iPad? If you do not use the keyboard and mouse, and tap with your finger, does the same thing happen?

Power cycle the iPad using these instructions:Restart your iPad - Apple Support While simple, this can refresh the iPadOS, apps and connections.

Also, tap on Settings > General > Trackpad & Mouse and toggle Tap to Click on. See if that helps.

If you have a case, please remove it and test. This may help isolate what is causing the issue.

Does this only happen with search engine results, or do you see other issues where you have to double click items?

This information may help others find a solution for you.

Have a good day.

Hello stonelle,

You mentioned that you checked a few Accessibility settings previously and all were turned off. Do you have any other Accessibility options on at all? If so, try disabling those and then restarting your iPad (Restart your iPad - Apple Support) and testing this issue.

In addition, are you using any type of security software, ad blocker or VPN on your iPad? Disable that as well please and see if the behavior changes.

If the issue persists, further assistance may be needed. We want to make sure you reach the right team for help with your device, so we recommend that you contact Apple Support directly. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach them here: Get Support - Apple.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities and have a wonderful day.

Hey there and welcome to Apple Support Communities stonelle,

We can certainly understand your concern and are here to help.

We would like to ask you a couple of questions in order to get a better understanding. First, what exact version of iPadOS are you currently using? We ask as the menus and options can change slightly between versions of the OS, and we want to make sure we provide the most accurate steps. You can locate this by going to Settings > General > About. Also, what browser are you using? Finally, have you change anything recently or added an application that involves opening links or enabling an accessibility function?

While you gather that information, check out this link for more information on troubleshooting Safari if websites won't load correctly: If Safari isn't loading websites or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

We thank you for your answers, they will help guide us to the next troubleshooting step.

Kindest regards!
