Random folders appear out of nowhere in Downloads folder

I searched here recently to find an answer to my question about why random folders were showing up in my downloads folder. Eventually, I followed instructions to boot in safe mode to see if it still happened and it did not. I removed MANY applications that I thought might have been causing it.


As I slowly added applications back, I saw it happen again.


Has this happened to you too? For me, the culprit was the Spotify app for desktop.


A similar post was closed for comments so I'm sharing that info here for anyone else. I deleted the Spotify app for desktop, and the related files, emptied Trash, and Restarted - all good again.

Here is a Spotify forum post which explains it a bit and mentions how to fix it by selecting a different Spotify cache folder (see the second solution listed):
