Damaged PDF on preview

The file “BOOK Lindhe 6th Edition.pdf” could not be opened.

It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize.

This just happened to a file I'm trying to open, how can I repair this file??

You cannot repair a damaged PDF, or force Preview to open a PDF that is incompatible with it. Preview cannot read every PDF and your fallback plan is to install the current free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (that Adobe keeps PDF current) and try the PDF in that application. If the Adobe Reader cannot open that PDF, then it is a junk file.

Note: The default Adobe Acrobat Reader DC that is at that link supports Catalina thru Ventura. If your operating system is older, there is a more download options link on that page where you can select older versions of the application for the relevant operating system version in use.
