Resetting an iPhone to Factory Settings:

Start with a backup Creation:

Create a backup of your iPhone, prior to all of this. That way you have something to restore your iPhone from, should anything go wrong with this after the reset.

Then...

Perform the Reset:

1. Go to: Settings 
2. Tap: General
3. Tap: Reset
4. Tap: Erase all Contents and Settings
5. Enter: your passcode or Apple ID password.
6. Wait: for all content to be safely removed from your device
